Golf Channel Instructor Search: I Need Your Help

The Golf Channel is holding a contest in attempt to find “The Next Golf Channel Instructor.” I am going to submit a video and see if I can make the top 4 in which we would host our own 30 minute show. The show will be voted on by the general public to see who is the next Golf Channel Instructor. I need your help in choosing a topic that would appeal to the golfing public and also be a good representation of my instructional skills. I am filming the real video on Monday with some help from a good friend and student with better equipment than I can afford so I will have no excuses if I am not chosen. Here is what I need from you all in the meantime. I have shot two trial videos of two different topics that I would like for you to watch. Leave a comment and let me know which one that you think I should reshoot. I have been shooting videos for that past year so I am hopefully prepared to stand out from the crowd. I will do my best to represent Guru Nation.  Thank you for your help and let’s see what happens. Check out my two videos below and vote on which one I should use.

VIDEO #1     ” The 3 Absolutes”

VIDEO #2    “Fixing The Over The Top”

Remember: This is not the actual video that I will submit, this was just a trial run

Thanks for Your Help,

Guru

  1. Having already discussed what kind of video you should post during our last session I was already thinking about what types of videos I would watch. I like both videos. #1 breaks down more parts of the swing and displays your knowledge of the golf swing and your ability to teach. However it could potentially come off as overly broad from the intro and might not hit home with the average viewer. Where as #2 is an area that a lot of players face and would be interested just by the title and intro. It is a video that anyone can watch, go to the range, and get results during their practice session. Also you can see your conviction to this drill and that you know it will get results. Its simple, easy to understand, and it will strike a cord with the masses. I have to go with #2. Think about it this way how would Kelly Tillman setup the segment for each video if they were going to run them during third round coverage of the Nationwide Tour when CBS has Tiger in the hunt. Which makes you stay turned to the Golf Channel. “Next up Jason Sutton, PGA Professional will a) breakdown the 3 absolutes of the golf swing or b) help you cure that over the top move in your next practice session.”

I vote video #1. Good luck with your quest.

I need to schedule a lesson in the next week.

    Hope all is well.

  3. Jason–two great instruction videos. I would vote for the “Over the Top” segment, as it provides good cause and effect demo as well as offering a drill to correct.

  4. Hi Jason,

I would definitely recommend the “Over the top” video. It is an excellent topic and one that almost all amateurs deal with. Good luck and I look forward to seeing you on the Golf Channel. You deserve it.

  5. Jason — “over the top” will resonate better with most viewers.

Here’s the thing — Golf Channel’s looking for a hook. What would make your show different than Michael Breed’s? Do you have an approach that will be different and unique that will increase ratings? (Breed’s hook is “I’ll fix whatever problem you have…with energy!”)

Answering that question — while being true to yourself and your method — will give you success with Golf Channel.

  6. Jason, I would vote for the second video. Trying to do three concepts in one was a little too much info to assimilate at one time. Good Luck, Reid

  7. Hi Jason. I like the the over the top video better. The other one was fine, but the drill on the over the top won me over.

  9. Jason,

I would use “Over the top” as if was easier to understand and it addresses an issue that effects most golfers (slice). The first video was a bit much to digest.
