All I ask is that you share this podcast on social or with your friends and with other coaches and players that might benefit from the information.  I am so excited for this one as This is a big one, so get out your note pad and your popcorn as My guest needs no introduction as its  None other than Joseph Mayo. Joe is a top 50 Golf Digest instructor that is based out of Nashville, TN at Westhaven Golf Club. Joe has coached on tour for many years and currently works with Victor Hovland, Webb Simpson and a few others. Joe is a very polarizing figure in the golf instruction and is a must follow on instagram @josephmayogolf. In this conversation we talk about how he got started in teaching to his work with Viktor and more specifically the short game coaching that he has been doing in the last couple of years. What I love about Joe is his need to problem solve and  find answers, critically thinking and the importance of measuring shots to back up any theory that you have or player in front of you. In  this case we do a deep dive into the low spinning chip shot that we both have highlighted on our instagram. Not only the metrics and ranges that he has measured but the techniques and pieces that are required to create this pattern and what the best chippers in the game are doing. so without further delay, I give you the brilliant and often controversial but always honest, my friend, Joseph Mayo….

First a big thank you to Joe for coming on the show as he doesn’t do many of these so it was an honor to have him on.  He shared some  incredible insight on short game and  that I know will help you all become better coaches and help your players

In that case, I think that this conversation will definitley sway your opinion as we go deep into the forces and torques we create in the golf swing using the ground and how to measure them. Dr. Tyler gives a detailed description of each of the important parts of each with some drills and application to go along with it so we as coaches can help our players improve. This was such an insightful coversation that I thoroughly enjoyed and learned alot from. I encourage you to also check out the video version on my youtube channel for some extra visual references if it doesn’t come through in the audio. So lets get to my conversation with the brilliant and talented, Dr. Tyler Standifird…..enjoy!

The Hitting It Sideways Golf Show with The Guru and Jake Thurm

Part 1 of the Hitting it Sideways Golf Show
Part 2 of the Hitting it Sideways Golf Show

The long awaited spinoff of the Golf Guru Show is finally here! Guru and his friend Jake Thurm @JakeThurmgolf host the “Hitting It Sideways Golf Show” where they cover golf instruction, movies, life and hacks and personal development ideas, and of course wine!. This episode covers the move sideways, the great short game debate (steep vs. shallow) and how the boys coach the short game.

We are at over 170 or so episodes and counting so I have interviewed so many great and legendary coaches but this episode is a little different as I am recording with my great friend and top coach, teacher of tour players and the US junior golf coach and all around great guy and a legend in his own mind, Mr.

Jake Thurm. You can follow Jake on all social platforms @jakethurmgolf as he is a must-follow. We are calling this the “Hitting It Sideways Golf Show” where the goal was to come together every couple of months and discuss not only teaching topics, what we are doing with our players etc., but our combined love for movies, book ideas, life and personal growth hacks and ideas and alot more. There were mentions of the importance of manscaping shaving knees, to the Mexican anti-inflamatory gel that I am applying to my knee and many more shenanigans and laughs as we get deeper in the wine goggles.  This format stemmed from his last visit to the podcast where we drank a lot of wine and chopped it up on my couch which was a huge hit, so we decided to try it out as a random show per se. Regardless, we had a great time catching up, sharing ideas and stories all the while drinking some good wine and getting sideways/ tipsy for sure by the end of this almost 2 and half hour kickoff in which I am splitting into 2 parts. So I hope you enjoy the first attempt at the Hitting it sideways while getting sideways golf show with my friend, the brilliant and entertaining, Jake Thurm. enjoy

Igor Vainshtein – Lessons from a serial entrepreneur

Whats up everybody and welcome to another episode of the golf guru show, I am your host, Jason Sutton, I am the director of instruction at the beautiful Colleton River club in Bluffton, SC where it is my mission to break down high performers in the teaching and coaching business and all fields of study, unpack and tease out what makes them great and successful from daily habits to how they operate with their students. Make sure that you download this episode and hit that purple subscribe button so you don’t miss out of future episodes that will be coming your way. All I ask is that you share this podcast on social or with your friends and with other coaches and players that might benefit from the information. I have a couple of asks for you if you don’t mind. I am updating my website and have changed the domain to GolfGurushow.com, so please go and subscribe to it and you will get an email about all future posts about the show as well as other coaching information. I am also posting the video version of the podcast on on my youtube channel so go and follow me there as well.  My guest on this episode is Igor Vainshtein. Igor would fall under the “all fields of study” category as he is not a golf instructor. Who is Igor you may ask. Igor is a serial entrepreneur that has developed over 12 multimillion dollar businesses over the years and recently developed 24/7 golf and now owns the most affordable golf simulator that runs on your phone called GolfTrak. You can go to golftrak.app to purchase one and there will be a promo code in the shownotes for a discount. But honestly that is not why I was excited to have him on the show. It is his story of perserverence, drive and passion and the adversity that he has gone through in his life to get to this point that I was inspired about. Igor was born in Russia, moved to Australia and now resides in the US but his journey is like a movie so I was very excited to dig into the details of what makes him tick and what keeps him going over so many failures and successes. Igor is so smart and business savvy that we agreed that there were so many parallels between golf instruction and entrepreneurship. He is truly making a difference in our industry and I hope that it comes through in this wide ranging conversation with the brilliant and talented, Igor Vainshtein. Enjoy!
