GURU TV – “The Kure Putting Solution”: Training Aid Review with Special Guest:LPGA Teaching Professional, Nancy Harvey

I would like to welcome one of my fellow teaching professionals, Nancy Harvey to Guru TV. She is an outstanding teacher and coach and I am fortunate to be able to teach with her every day. I promised all of you, teachers and students some feedback on my new training aid, “The Kure”. I have given about 5 lessons using the aid from 2 tour players (who both loved it), to a wide range of students. I start my lesson by watching the student roll a few putts with the naked eye and make my initial assumptions on aim, set up and stroke mechanics. I proceed into the video room and put them on the camera where I share with them what I like and don’t like. I make the necessary adjustments to their setup and stroke and then introduce the Kure indoors first until they can aim effectively and hit some solid putts. Then I take them outside to finish the lesson so they can see the feedback and make some putts. Here is some excellent feedback given by a student that I worked with today……………………….

Roger’s Comments: Had the opportunity to spend an hour with Jason this afternoon trying out The Kure. At first glance it resembles the floor safety sensors for your standard automatic garage door and opener, just shrunken down a bit. One sensor for your putter and the other over your line or the cup. Line ‘em up and a yellow light pops on. Make a good stroke all the way through and a green light comes on. Who doesn’t love immediate feedback? I was literally sinking putt after putt while using this thing. I saw only 2 very minor issues with the tool, both very subjective; 1) I have a ping anser series putter. Its pretty light compared to some of the hardware I see people pull out on the greens these days. I felt it added a little too much weight to my club. I could see it being barely noticeable, if at all, with one of the heavier, say, odyssey 2 ball putters or a belly putter, but would like to see it refined to a smaller, lighter version. 2) I caught myself wanting to look to the hole as I was putting rather than keep my head down. I was searching for the green indicator that signaled a good stroke. Jason made a great suggestion that they add sound to the device in addition to the indicator lights. Or I could just keep my head down….. This is a great training aid. And for the lefties out there….I’m a lefty! Works equally well on both sides of the ball. Coupling this great tool with a great instructor like Jason WILL make you dangerous on the greens.

Now that is great, honest feedback! Thanks for the comment, Roger.

I Have “The Kure” In my hands. Who Needs A Putting Lesson?

If you read the previous post and and watched the video, you already know that I have purchased a new training aid called “The Kure”. I have taken it out of the box and started to mess with it in my house on the carpet and I am very excited to share it with my students starting tomorrow. So who needs a putting lesson? I am accepting guinea pigs this week for those who want to try it. We have talked extensively about the importance of set up and posture in putting but it is all for not if you can’t aim the putter face and square it at impact. This is what The Kure helps you create. Muscle memory and visual feedback of face alignment. I think I will couple this with the Putting Arc and see what happens. If you like it, I will help you purchase one for your own personal use as I am now a certified dealer. Details will follow as how to do this. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you all on the putting green.

“THE KURE” Putting Solution: THE LATEST IN THE GURUS ARSENAL OF TRAINING AIDS

The Kure putting solution is a new training aid that I discovered from one of my students. I am always trying to find new toys and gadgets that will help my students improve. Putting is one of the most important parts of the game and it is very important that you work efficiently as you practice. No matter what method that you believe in, the number one fundamental is clubface alignment and control. If you can’t aim the putter face consistently, you will not be the best putter that you can be. I feel that this new gadget which is endorsed by two putting instructors that I admire (Todd Sones and Mike Shannon), will help me as an instructor and you as my student, get more out of our time together on the putting green. I placed the order this morning, so you know that  I will be doing a video with a  review from my findings. In the meantime, here is a short video that demonstrates this fine product.

See you on the lesson tee,

Guru TV – Interval Training for Swing Plane and Impact: Guru Style

I think impact is a very difficult thing to teach and to work on. As you have seen in previous videos, I have laid out a progression of drills to help you to develop the skill of creating a flat lead wrist. We talked about training the left arm with my 3 steps to a better impact. 1. left arm only…..2. the claw drill…….3. the punch shot. Now I have another way to create more of a feel rather than just understanding impact. I have seen amazing results from this type of training that will surely help your ball striking. Most golfers understand that the shaft should swing on plane and that the handle should lead the club face but most have never actually felt it. In this video, I give you a way to use a couple of training aids to help you feel these two important areas of the swing. I hope you enjoy INTERVAL TRAINING…..GURU STYLE.

Let me know how it goes and feel free to schedule a lesson so I can take you through this personally and show you the results on video as well as in your ball striking. Visit our website at http://www.danarader.com or call 704-542-7635 to schedule a lesson.

See you on the lesson tee,

P.G.A. Show Update

Welcome to my first away game post. I am coming to you from the Orlando Airport as I wait on my flight back to Charlotte. It is now about 60 degrees and it looks like it is about 25 in Charlotte. It was a very productive show but I am looking forward to getting back to my family that I miss very much. I don’t do a lot of traveling so it makes it tough when they can’t make the trip. The show was enormous as usual with most of the major companies represented (aside from Nike equipment). There were lots of gadgets and toys to observe and new technology that can be used to enhance your ability to learn this great game. I wouldn’t say that there was one thing that blew me away but I did leave with a few interesting training aid ideas for the upcoming season. I attended several seminars, acquired some new information and caught up with old friends to exchange ideas.  I took some video of some of the things that I saw and will hopefully have that ready to post in a few days. The highlight for me (as always), is the Golf Magazine Top 100 party where I get to mingle with the games greatest teachers and meet legends in our industry. Seymour Dunn was inducted into the hall of fame. It was hosted by Peter Kessler (whom I met for the first time and will be a guest on his radio show in few weeks), so that was exciting. I met legends like Bob Toski and Phil Ritson and caught up with old friends. What I can tell you about the golf industry is that I feel it is on the way back. It will rebound but we have a ways to go. I will try to do my part by continuing to grow the game one student at a time. Check back in to see video and more insight from the PGA show from the guru.

Early Extension Drill

Noodle Drill

Here is a great drill that will help you if you tend to lose your spine angle in your downswing. This is when your hips thrust forward in your downswing and your upper body moves away from the ground.  This is a preview of my upcoming article in Golf Illustrated (Jan/Feb issue) on posting and rotating. This is a key move in the downswing that all the players on tour make where they rotate their hips and push back as their upper body maintains it’s angle throughout.  This is why some players appear to squat or go down (Tiger for example).  The Noodle drill is easy to set up: Use a broken shaft and a pool noodle. Place against your rear end as you set up to the ball.  Start with half swings until you can hit the ball solid without coming off the noodle. Then grow it up to a full motion and enjoy hitting the ball solid. I will definitely do a show on this in the future but I wanted to give you a taste of what I feel is a often overlooked part of the swing. Let me know how it goes if you try this drill
